My Town Coopersville: Public hearing March 10 on proposed recreational living restrictions

COOPERSVILLE, Mich.— The public is invited to weigh in on a proposed ordinance amendment that would add restrictions to living in recreational vehicles within the city limits.

The proposed ordinance amendment was created after neighborhood complaints about people living in recreational vehicles and tents for months on end.  The ordinance targets people that primarily live outside a main home with no water or sewer service.

The proposed ordinance restricts living in travel trailers, pickup campers or coaches, motorized dwellings, tent trailers, boats and boat trailers, tent structures and trailers not in recreational zoning districts to no longer than five days during a 30 day period. The proposed amendment also limits the length of time recreational equipment can be connected to electricity in residential zoning districts to five days within a 30 day period. Under the amendment, recreational equipment cannot be connected to sanitary sewer facilities.

The public hearing will take place during the next city council meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 10 at  at City Hall, located at 289 Danforth Street.
