My Town Coopersville: Recreational living restrictions now in effect

COOPERSVILLE, Mich.— New restrictions to living in recreational vehicles within the city limits are now in place.

Coopersville's amended ordinance No. 456 takes effect March 19.  The new guidelines  were created after neighborhood complaints about people living in recreational vehicles and tents for months on end.  The ordinance targets people that primarily live outside a main home with no water or sewer service.

The ordinance restricts living in travel trailers, pickup campers or coaches, motorized dwellings, tent trailers, boats and boat trailers, tent structures and trailers in residentially zoned areas to no longer than 14 days during a 30 day period. The amendment also limits the length of time recreational equipment can be connected to electricity in residential areas to 14 days within a 30 day period. Under the amendment, recreational equipment cannot be connected to sanitary sewer facilities.

Violating the ordinance is considered a civil infraction.
