Truck driver hit retrieving paperwork in roadway
News

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) A Wyoming truck driver suffered a broken leg when he was hit by a car early Monday morning.

The accident happened on 64th Avenue near west Randal Street at about 6:30am Monday.

Investigators say that James Schumacher, 55, had pulled his semi-truck to the side of 64th Avenue from Randal Street to retrieve some paperwork that was left on the truck. That paperwork then blew into the roadway. While he was trying to pick up the paperwork and searching for it using a flashlight, he was struck by a 21-year-old Coopersville resident in a passing vehicle.

The driver slowed and moved into the inside lane, according to investigators, but he could not avoid him. Schumacher is in stable condition with a broken leg at Spectrum Hospital.
