My Town: City of Grand Rapids releases Water System Water Quality Report

---NEWS RELEASE---

Findings in the City of Grand Rapids’ Water System Water Quality Report for 2014 show that the agency continues to provide safe, quality drinking water that meets or exceeds national requirements.

According to Joellen Thompson, water system manager, the System is proud of its water quality and the steps taken to ensure the safety and reliability of the public water supply. She said the annual Consumer Confidence Report, which provides information and results of water quality monitoring for 2014 as required under the Safe Drinking Water Act, is currently being mailed to all Water System customers. The System provides residential and commercial water service to the cities of Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Kentwood and Walker, to the townships of Ada, Cascade Charter, Grand Rapids Charter and Tallmadge Charter, and to portions of Ottawa County.

“The guiding principle behind the consumer confidence reports (CCRs) is that all people have the right to know what is in their drinking water and where it comes from,” said Thompson. “This annual report allows us to educate customers about the source and quality of Grand Rapids’ drinking water, as well as provide information on a variety of related water topics.”

She said that due to the important nature of the information in the report, the Water System’s goal is to distribute the report to every water system user, including the employees of businesses and residents of housing units and apartment complexes. Customers who have questions about any information in the report or who would like to request additional copies can do so by calling 311. Those who are unable to dial 311 or live outside the City limits of Grand Rapids can call (616) 456-3000. The report is also available online at grcity.us/water.
