Police: 3 hurt after teen driver runs stop sign

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- Three people were hurt when a Wyoming teenager pulled into the path of a pickup truck Sunday evening.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Cleveland Street and 56th Avenue.

Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies said D.J. Keckler, 20 and of Wyoming, and his passenger, Alayna Boomgaard, 17 and of Conklin, were traveling westbound when he did not stop at the intersection and his Chevy Impala struck a southbound Ford F150. Keckler's family said they believe he had stopped at the stop sign before pulling into the intersection.

The truck, driven by Mark Denhoff, did not have a stop sign and had the right-of-way. The two vehicles also hit a utility pole in the intersection.

Keckler, Boomgaard, and Lisa Denhoff, a passenger in the truck were injured, and hospitalized in stable condition.

Keckler was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.
