Trail Point Brewing Company taps into Allendale

ALLENDALE, Mich. (WZZM) -- It seems like everywhere you look in West Michigan, new breweries are popping up. The latest establishment opened its doors on Saturday in Allendale.

When Jamie Mccomb was visiting friends at nearby Grand Valley State University a decade ago, Lake Michigan Drive didn't have a lot of options for social outings.

"There was really nothing out here," said Mccomb. "A couple of party stores out here and there weren't a lot of micro-brews back then either. It was all Budweiser and Bud Lite."

Now, places like Trail Point Brewing Company, are giving them a run for their money. In fact, Trail Point Brewery will be the only micro-brew nearby and along a road that many take to get to and from the beach.

"I think as brewers we only encourage and help each other more than thinking of it as competitive nature," said head brewer, Gary Evans. "Besides that, there isn't a brewery within 15 miles of us."

The rustic-themed shop features beers like a Dark Trail Oatmeal Stout, a Lemon Shandy and everything in between.

The owners also have plans to add a beer garden in the coming months.
