MARNE, Mich.— A Coopersville native is the newest champion of the Battle at Berlin 251.

Johnny VanDoorn led the race from the start, even during the first caution flag on turn two.  At lap 25, VanDoorn added to his lead over Kyle Jones, when Jones got stuck behind lapped cars.  At lap 50, VanDoorn’s lead grew to just over three seconds.  VanDoorn lost the lead when he hit pit road, pulling back onto the track in sixth place.  By lap 121, VanDoorn had moved up the ranks to second place, behind Derek Griffin, who fell behind shortly after a four-car crash.

After another pit stop, VanDoorn returned to the track, quickly taking back the lead from T.J Reaid.  Despite a caution flag for debris, VanDoorn held onto his lead until the end.  Chad Finley, Bubba Pollard,  Reaid, Trey Mitchell, Austin Theriault, Ross Kenseth, Brandon Hermiller, Phil Bozell and Griffin rounded out the top ten.
