Grand Rapids brewery backs organization helping children

COOPERSVILLE, Mich.—A Grand Rapids brewery is throwing its support behind a non-profit organization in Coopersville.

Lori Hastings created “Lori’s Voice” to help children with muscular, neurological and other degenerative diseases. Despite her own physical challenges, Hastings has written two children’s books using voice-activated software and plans to create three more.  Proceeds from the books go to her non-profit organization.

On August 19, The Mitten Brewery Co. on Leonard Street NW plans to donate half of all food sales to Lori’s Voice and the NICU family support program.   The Mitten is also partnering with Lori’s Voice throughout the entire month of August, donating a percentage of all sales to the organization.

Sparta's Michigan Beer Cellar changing owners

Michigan Beer Cellar at 500 E Division Street in Sparta is getting a new owner. According to the Facebook page of Michigan Beer Cellar, the brewery is being sold to Chuck Brown from Coopersville. Brown apparently has deep experience in the restaurant and food service industry and plans to continue to grow Michigan Beer Cellar. The current owners are training Brown on all aspects of the brewery in the next few months.

The same beers, wines, and distilled products are expected to be made under the new ownership, along with some new products. Brown started at the brewery full time starting last Monday while the licensing process is worked out.
