Coopersville board hires new superintendent

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. - The Coopersville Area Public Schools Board of Ed voted unanimously to appoint Ron Veldman as the schools next leader replacing retiring superintendent Dr. Kevin R. O’Neill. Veldman currently serves as the district’s assistant superintendent.  He has guided the schools through numerous building and remodeling projects overseeing much of the work himself, saving the district thousands in building costs. His work on the district’s strategic plan will help keep the school district focused and on course for continued success.

Board of Education meeting is NOT canceled

COOPERSVILLE, Mich. - Despite the inclement weather and the closing of Coopersville Public Schools, tonight's Board of Education meeting has not been canceled. The meeting will take place at 7:00 pm as scheduled.

Mark your calendars for the Coopersville PTA Carnival on Friday March 25, 2011, from 5:30 P.M.-8:30 P.M. at South Elementary. Come enjoy the games for all ages, including the cake walks, and the gold fish tosses. There will be face and hair painting, cotton candy, and Sno-cones. Food will be available on-site all evening. Advance ticket sales are available at 5 tickets for $1.00. Tickets at the door on carnival night are 4 tickets for $1.00.  Most games cost from 1-3 tickets. For questions, or advance ticket purchases or to help at the carnival or to make a donation for the cake walk, please contact Diane Meinders at 616-837-1534 or diane.meinders@gmail.com  A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Coopersville High School Graduation All-Night-Party.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Kwyn, who was born in China, wore a traditional Chinese outfit to school to help celebrate the Chinese New Year.  The 2011 Chinese New Year began on February 3, and this year the Chinese celebrate  "The Year of the Rabbit".  Kwyn shared a book about the Chinese New Year's festivities with her kindergarten classmates in the Coopersville Area Public Schools Kinderclub program.

Registration is underway for the 2011-2012 Coopersville Area Public Schools preschool program.To register, students must be four-years-old by December 1, 2011 for the four-year-old program, and three-years-old by December 1, 2011 for the three-year-old program. Please bring a non-refundable registration fee of $30.00 with you at the time of registration. Also, applications will be available for the four-year-old "Great Start Preschool Program". There are many ways to qualify for this free program. After February 21st, you may call 997-3600 to register your child for preschool. If you have any questions, please call 997-3600.

Coopersville Teacher Presents Research at National Conference

Coopersville Area Public Schools speech pathologist and former CHS graduate, Katie Smoes, presented at the national American, Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) conference in Philadelphia. Katie presented "Language and Literacy; A Trans-national Research Project". It was a West African research project she took part in. Katie works at the West Early Childhood Center and is a great addition to the Coopersville Speech and Language Team.
