West Michigan growers are seeing high demand for berries this summer.

Many farmers have closed their fields for a couple days after visitors picked their plants clean.  The increasing demand also led to a shorter cherry season for some growers.

Here's a list of some of the U-pick locations open in West Michigan this summer. Prices, fruit availability and hours vary daily, so it's best to call ahead before visiting any farm.

New Goodwill store to open in Coopersville

COOPERSVILLE, Mich.—A storefront that’s been home to a variety of businesses is now getting a Goodwill store.

The Coopersville city clerk says Goodwill Industries is on schedule to open its newest store at 1141 and 1145 W. Randall.  The plaza, which previously housed a nail salon, tanning salon, real estate office and a Curves fitness center, is owned by Skyway Development.

Before Goodwill can move in, developers plan to add an awning so visitors can drop off donations in all weather conditions.  On May 20, the Coopersville Planning Commission approved the proposed renovations, as long as the parking lot was also upgraded and the proper inspections conducted. Signs for the Goodwill store must still be approved by city officials.

The new store is expected to employ ten people and should open in mid-August.
